In the southern part of Mamry, on the lake Dobskie, there is an island called Wysoki Ostrow, 'Cormorant Island', which is a reserve protecting the cormorant and the grey heron.

The most striking view on the island is definitely the collection of dry trees, deprived of leaves, covered only with bird excrement. Toxic substances included in the excrement contribute to the atrophy of the trees.

Approximately 1,000 birds have nests on the island. Cormorants feed on fish and can eat up to 1.5 kg a day. They are good at swimming and diving. The species in under ptotection.
