The Dajna Waterway (Mragowo – Swieta Lipka)
You start kayaking along the right side shore of Czos Lake. You have to go towards the north-eastern part of the lake. Along its northern part you see a road. Then, you go under two bridges, through the tunnel. The depth is approx. 25 cm only, the width of 4 m or so, the bed is clean, but be careful of big stones sitting in the bed.
The banks are a little steep with some buldings on the left. The road Mragowo – Gizycko is not in a far distance. You pass a wooden bridge. The stream becomes a bit narrower and deeper afterwards. It meanders. You should be carful of some stones, tree trunks and branches under the water surface.
Then you have to move your kayak along the left sandy, bank, next, the right one with some water plants and fishing company area because of shallowness, mill dam and fishing ponds. When you have passed the back gate of the fishing company you are in the stream (d: 20 cm, w: 2.5 m) leading to Czarne Lake. The lake is round in shape with a some one hundred meter bay. Its shoreline is rather monotone with woods. You go towards the north. You pass the pier and beach. There is the outflow, almost unvisible, in the reed, in the north-eastern end of the lake. Then, there is the meander stream, widening to some 1 m, leadnig to Kot Lake.
In the final part of the stream there is a bridge with a sandy path over it. From there, after carrying your kayak for a couple of meters, continue with the stream (having almost the constant depth of 0.5 m and width of 2 m) to Kot Lake. The lake is not vast, the shore is marshy, mainly wooded. Now paddle towards the south, along the shore. In front of you, in a distance, the beginning of another stream can be observed. It connects Kot and Juno lakes and has flat, wooded banks covered with some minor stones which, as well as fallen trees, you should beware of. The stream depth is approx. 30 cm, the width about 4 m.
Then there is the road Mragowo - Ketrzyn bridge and you are on the inflow to Juno Lake, where, on the left you can see Mragowo's northern panorama. You go northwards along the shore on your right. Then you are on Kiersztanowskie Lake. Turn left to the north-east. The lake is narrow and long with a winding tunnel valley. The shore is varied and high. In the first part you pass a some one hundred meter bay. On the shore, on the left, there is a small ferry harbour. The ferry crosses Kiersztanowskie Lake. In the end of the lake you find the outflow, but it is wide (8 m) and quite deep (1.5 m). Beware of some stones and numerous fallen trees. Pass the road bridge (you have to carry the kayak for some meters underneath because of stones). Afterwards, the current becomes stronger (d: 15-60 cm, w: 4 m), you may easily paddle as there are not many obstacles. The stream flows into Spigiel Lake, which is small and marshy. The lake is shored by trees. Go in a north-eastern direction then.
The Dajna connects Spigiel Lake and the pool in Pilec. The river depth is approx. 40 cm, the width is 4 m or so. Go under the road bridge (the road Mragowo – Reszel). The river is shallow there, only some 30 cm, wheras the width is some 7 m. The pool has the island towards which you go. Pass the island to get the shore. On shore, you can see a dam, so you carry the kayak again, along the right side of the building line. Then you put it on the water and pull for some metres as numerous stones sit in the bed (d: 20 cm, w: 2 m).
The stream division. The bed is gravel-like with stones and tree branches (d: 40-60 cm, w: 3.5 m). The banks are high and wooded. Turn left. The small bay on the right has the outflow of the Dajna, which adjoins the Guber near Ketrzyn.
The widest part of Dejnowa Lake has 550 m. The lakeshore on the right is wooded. In the northern end of the lake, over the woods, you can see the baroque basilica and monastery buildings of Swieta Lipka. Leave your kayak on the sandy beach near the pier.
